Greater Range of Potential Telephone Features
An IP-based system will allow you and your customers to offer features never
possible on a traditional system. Ultimately, this could mean services such
as:
- Advanced phones with speakerphones and displays
- Reliable personal videophones and computer-based phones
- An unlimited number of phones on a single line
- An unlimited number of lines on a single phone
- Placing and receiving calls from anywhere on campus using a Wireless, VoIP-enabled phone
- Placing and receiving calls from your laptop using your office phone number from wherever you have internet access.
- Use your phone as an information terminal, complete with a directory, UBC news, weather and other information.
- Temporarily transfer your phone number and settings to other VoIP-enabled phones - ideal for lab work and extended meetings.

Leading Technology
According to industry analysts, VoIP is the future of telephony. Based on its
recent survey of 270 corporations, tech consultancy Meta Group estimates that
nearly 30% of U.S. businesses may move to VoIP within two years.
Capital and Operational Cost Savings Since VoIP uses converged network technology,
the cost savings are significant when compared to developing and maintaining
separate voice and data networks.
In the case of the pilot project, implementation costs are only slightly lower
than a traditional analog phone system. As the initial equipment costs get amortized,
however, we expect to see more significant cost savings.

Eliminating Downtime
Like a traditional phone, it's critical that your VoIP phone will continue to
function during a power outage. In offices that use VoIP-enabled connections
and/or wireless internet access, internet connectivity will continue to work
during a power failure. VoIP network redundancy will also benefit data/internet
customers by providing greater reliability and virtually no downtime—even
during upgrades.
Improving Security
As part of the VoIP upgrade, the core network will provide central protection,
a first for a university environment. Over time, this means departments will
no longer face costs of $10-20K to secure their networks behind firewalls.

Caller ID
Identify incoming calls - quickly, easily, and without interruption. Caller
ID works just like Caller ID services offered by your local phone company. With
a simple glance you can see the number of the person calling, and screen for
those calls you prefer not to take. A great tool for managing your calls.
Call Waiting
Never miss an important call just because you were on the other line. Whenever
another call is received while you are currently using the phone, you will then
be notified of that call and may answer it accordingly.
Conference Calling
Bring in a multiple people into your conversation - in a snap! Now you don't
have to pay additionally for expensive conference calls. With no additional

people around the world. It’s also great for connecting family, or having

Call Forwarding

Transfer your call to someone else - so when you're through speaking with them,
you can share them with someone else! With Call Transfer, you can send the call
you are currently on to another number. Transfer calls to your friends, or transfer

Call Block
Block calls from unwanted numbers. Control who contacts you with Call Block.
Simply put the numbers you prefer not to receive calls from in our Call Block
list, and you will no longer receive those calls.
Voicemail to email
Can’t get to your phone? Have your Voice Mail sent to your Email. Manage
your voicemail to have your Voice Mail sent as a .wav file directly to your
email, keeping you in touch when you can’t be by the phone.
Call Hold
Have your call placed on hold - Great when you need a moment of privacy while
